The stands at Art Sanders Field were full on both sides on Friday, August 23rd. The final score of the game was 21 to 6 with Pekin securing the win.
After the first-week loss West Washington (WW) head coach, Jeremy Lowery told his football players not to blink. “There were twelve guys that started their first varsity football game on Friday. We still feel great about our team and all the issues that kept us from the win are fixable,” Lowery said.
This week during practice the team will be focusing on simulating game-like situations such as specific down, distance, and time on the clock, Lowery said. The focus will be on finishing or closing out drives.
The WW football coaching staff wants to emphasize how proud they are of the young men who got their first varsity nod. “Our guys did a great job preparing and getting themselves ready to compete,” Lowery said.
On Friday, August 30th the WW Senators will face off against Clarksville. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be played at home. Last week, Clarksville lost their season opener against Pike Central 35-0.
“Clarksville will be hungry for a win as they are coming off a loss as well. They have some very talented players and we will need to be prepared for their overall team speed and aggressive style of defense,” Lowery said.
The Senators are trusting one another and their process. They will use the practice time to gain improvements and wins in the near future, Lowery said.
