The West Washington (WW) Senators beat Clarksville in week two of high school football. The Senators offense scored 39 points and the defense held Clarksville to zero touchdowns.
The first quarter started with some fumbles but the team was able to rally around each other in the second quarter to score, junior Hayden Morrow said.
Jeremy Lowery, head coach of the WW team, agrees that the start of the game wasn’t perfect. “The part that was most impressive about the game Friday was the fact that we were able to overcome a really bad start. We had some self-inflicted errors early in the game, but we did a great job keeping our composure and working through those issues,” Lowery said.
The team worked through their early errors and gave the crowd an entertaining performance the rest of the evening. Several players made large plays that impacted the trajectory of the game.
“I thought we played well defensively, particularly up front. Collin Hasty, Rolando Brookover, and Gavin Clunie really dominated the trenches. Hayden Morrow has also been playing really good football on both sides of the ball,” Lowery said.
Hasty, Brookover, and Clunie play both offensive and defensive line. Morrow is a junior playing as a wide receiver and a defensive back.
Morrow wanted to shout out one of his teammates for a milestone accomplishment. “Iziah Dennis got the first two touchdowns of his varsity career,” Morrow said.
The WW Senators will play Mitchell at home on Friday, September, 6th. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. “Mitchell has some really nice athletes that we must keep in check. The key to another Senator victory will be to continue to work on limiting our self-inflicted errors,” Lowery said.
