West Washington is proud to introduce Ashton Minton. Ashton is a great addition to our 5th-grade elementary staff, as well as the new head coach of our Senator Basketball Program.
Hometown and Family: Ashton and his large family, including his four brothers and sister, are from Paoli. "Family has always meant the world to me and I’m incredibly blessed to have not only my own big family, but an even larger one through marriage. Without the support of my family, I would not be the person I am today,” stated Ashton. His wife, Maddie Minton, is also a teacher at West Washington. Ashton and Maddie have dated since high school and were recently married last May.
Coaching Journey: Ashton’s love for basketball and working with kids is what first attracted him to coaching. “After my playing career ended, I knew I wanted to stay connected to the game and coaching was the perfect way to do that. I focus on building strong relationships with my players, which is just as important to me as coaching them on the court. The lessons I teach extend beyond the game, into life off the court. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some incredible coaches in my life and their influence has shaped me into the coach I am today,” explained Coach Minton.
Previous Experience: Before joining West Washington as a fifth-grade teacher and basketball coach, Ashton spent the last two years teaching sixth grade at Throop Elementary in Paoli. During that time, he also coached both basketball and baseball, a role he has held since he graduated high school.
First Impressions of West Washington: Mr. Minton was already somewhat familiar with West Washington through his wife, Maddie, who grew up here and is a Senator graduate. “My first impressions of the people and facilities at West Washington have been nothing short of remarkable. The small school atmosphere and community feel are something I’ve always enjoyed and I look forward to coming here every day. From the moment I first visited, I knew there was something special about this school. The facilities are outstanding, especially for a 1A school and I’m grateful to be part of such a top-notch community,” Ashton remarked.
Motivation to Coach: Coach Minton’s motivation to coach year after year is based on the strong relationships he builds with his players. “These bonds grow deeper with each season and I truly enjoy learning more about both the game and my players, on and off the court. It’s these connections that fuel my passion for coaching,” Ashton commented.
