Staff Spotlight

West Washington is proud to feature our Life Skills teacher, Tim Chastain. This is Tim’s first year as a Senator and he has been a great addition to our Life Skills classroom, bringing a wealth of knowledge and passion to our team.

Educational Journey:
After completing his master's degree at Indiana University, Mr. Chastain began his career in education, teaching at a small private school in Indiana called the Harmony Education Center. After his time at Harmony, Tim returned to his roots in Paoli, IN. to help his grandparents as his grandfather needed extra assistance in his final days. While staying with his grandparents, Tim worked in various teaching roles within the Paoli Community School Corporation.

Interests and Background:
For the past 13 years, Mr. Chastain has worked as both an airplane and helicopter pilot. His first job was with Cape Air, where he flew across various U.S. and Caribbean locations, experiencing extreme winters in Montana and beautiful summers in Maine. He then transitioned to Republic Airline, flying the Embraer 175 jet out of LaGuardia Airport and later Indianapolis. During the COVID pandemic, Tim left the airlines and began flying helicopters and a King Air 200 for a timber export company, Land of Indiana, while also occasionally co-piloting a corporate jet. “One of my favorite routes was my morning flight from Bar Harbor, Maine, to Boston, Massachusetts. A few times, when I didn’t have passengers, I was able to fly almost the entire coastline at an elevation of 500 feet above the ocean at around 200 miles per hour! My absolute favorite bases were Puerto Rico and Nevis/St. Kitts Island in the Caribbean,” Mr. Chastain reflected.

Return to Education:
Life has opened an unexpected door for Mr. Chastain, offering him the opportunity to return to southern Indiana, a place he has always cherished. Tim is excited to join West Washington Community School as part of the Life Skills class. “It is an honor to be a part of the Life Skills class here at West Washington Community School. I hope to provide students with the necessary skills to become happy, productive community members in multiple capacities. In the aviation world, you often find yourself working with new faces for short periods of time. It’s a nice change to see the same group of people daily and build lasting friendships. My goal is to treat this year as an effort to continually strive to reach my highest potential as a human, a teacher, and a member of my new community!” explained Mr. Chastain.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Tim Chastain to Senator Nation!
