The weekend before Christmas the WW Basketball team competed in the Holiday Tournament. They won the first round against Salem and moved on to the championship.

The final score of the Salem game was 39-32. “I thought our kids were very prepared for Salem right out of the gate Friday night. We knew they were going to play a box in one on Holden and our kids executed the game plan that we worked on all week. We got off to a good start in the first quarter and maintained the lead the entire game. We got big minutes from our bench and did a great job all night,” head coach Ashton Minton said.

On Saturday WW moved on to the championship against Borden. The Senators fell short after a hard fought game. “We have to improve on cutting runs in half. Borden got out on us 9-0 in the first quarter and 8-0 on us in the third. If we can cut those runs in half we could have seen a different result in the end. We got down 18-20 points but the kids didn’t quit. We cut the lead to 5 but just couldn’t overcome the hole we dug ourselves in the third quarter. We seem to have one quarter a game where we just don’t execute offensively. We have to make sure we do a better job of taking those quarters away moving forward, basketball is a four quarter game. The kids fought until the buzzer sounded and I was very proud of them for that,” Minton said.

The final score of the game was Borden 59 and WW 54. Come support your Senators on Saturday the 28th. They will face off against Loogootee at 11 a.m. and then North Davies at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Loogootee.
