Meredith Deaton

Congratulations to Lady Senator junior Meredith Deaton on reaching the 1,000-career-point milestone! This is a rare achievement, with Meredith becoming just the third girl to score 1,000 points at West Washington.

When asked what this accomplishment means to her, Meredith stated, “This accomplishment means so much to me. Scoring 1,000 points has been a goal for my high school career since I was a little girl. I would have never thought that I would score my 1,000th point in my junior season. So, I think reaching this milestone is a testament to all the time and effort I have put into this sport.”

Meredith’s incredible work ethic is undeniable among her coaches and teammates. West Washington Girls Basketball Coach Kristin Messmore explains, “Meredith has such dedication to anything she sets her mind to do. She has worked extremely hard over the years to achieve this amazing goal of 1,000 points as a junior. She is one that comes in on her own during the season and off-season to put in extra shooting and workouts. When we are practicing in-season and off-season, she is always giving 100%. She doesn't just go through the motions to get through a practice or complete a workout. She does every drill and workout to get better. We can all learn a lot from Meredith and that hard work does pay off.”

Meredith was humble in her recognition of this feat and was quick to acknowledge the many special people who have helped her along the way, saying, “First, I would like to thank my parents for all the time and money they have spent to allow me to follow my dreams—my mom for the many hours spent in gyms and my dad for the countless shots that he has rebounded. I thank them for giving me encouragement when I am struggling and reminding me to take it all in when things are good. Next, all my coaches who have made me the player and person I am today. Thank you to Coach Messmore, who has given me the confidence that I never knew I needed, for believing in me to be a leader of this team, and for trusting in my skills. Thank you to my teammates as well for having the confidence in me that you do. Lastly, I want to thank God because, without Him, none of this could happen. Thank you, God, for giving me the skills and determination to push myself every day so I could accomplish my biggest dreams.”

Meredith's qualities go far beyond her athletic abilities. Her impeccable character has made her a great role model for future Senators. When asked what advice she would give to future Senators, Meredith shared, “To all the future Senators, my advice to you is to work hard. Hard work will beat talent. If you have a goal or a dream for your future self, work hard and put yourself in the best position to accomplish those goals.”
