The West Washington and Orleans basketball teams gathered together to say a prayer for Officer Zac Andry before the game. SRO Aaron Dennis and Rob Batchelor helped coordinate the event to fundraise for Officer Andry.
“The fundraising event we did for Officer Andry was a great success. It was great to see two communities coming together to support such a great cause. All players and coaches had the same shirt on representing Officer Andry. It was truly special to share a circle of prayer on the court between both teams, referees, and local law enforcement officers before the start of our varsity game. Basketball is more than just basketball, and on Saturday night it showed. We want to thank everyone who contributed and a special shout-out to those who planned the event,” head coach Ashton Minton said.
The WW team has recently played Henryville and Orleans. The final score was Henryville: 48 WW: 43 and Orleans: 56 WW: 33.
Up next the Senators will take on Shoals. “Shoals has been up and down and facing a lot of adversity recently in their season. They are a very dangerous team on any given night. They have competed with some really good teams on their schedule. Their guard can really score it so we have to be able to keep him from getting open looks. Also, they have a 6’8 kid in the middle that could create a lot of matchup problems. Shoals is a very tough place to play, so we have to make sure we come out ready to play for four quarters,” Minton said.
The Shoals game will be away and J.V. will start at 6 p.m.
In the sectional draw, WW is set to face Christian Academy. WW will be hosting sectional this year in the T. Kermit Tower Gymnasium. The Senators will play Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
