WWSC

February is CTE Month, a chance to celebrate Career and Technical Education and its impact on preparing students for college and career success. The CTE program at West Washington is more than just a program, it’s a pathway to a bright future.

WWHS is committed to helping students reach their full potential beyond graduation. By offering a variety of CTE courses and industry-recognized certifications, West Washington ensures that students are prepared for the workforce and higher education. WWHS students taking CTE courses have the opportunity to gain up to 65 free college credits through Ivy Tech.

“The CTE Department is dedicated to providing students with hands-on experience in essential skills such as communication, metacognition, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, and character. Our courses span a wide range of fields, including Agriculture, Business and Marketing, Education, Health Sciences, Engineering, Construction, Graphic Design, and Radio. Many West Washington alumni have shared that their CTE courses played a key role in their success after graduation,” explained the CTE Department Chair Chad Johnson.

Students in certain CTE courses also have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in Adobe, Autodesk, and Microsoft Office, as well as certifications for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Additionally, they can obtain a CDL-A license. These credentials provide a valuable foundation for future careers in high-demand fields.

CTE teacher Brian Wolfe proudly states, “I am proud that the Career and Technical Education Department at West Washington offers students the chance to earn dual credits in programs ranging from manufacturing to agriculture to nursing. These extensive opportunities make West Washington a premiere school in the state for any student to get a jump start on their post-secondary education.”

With this strong commitment to career readiness, WWHS continues to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their future careers.
