Rhiley Brennan Competes In IHSAA Semi-State Wrestling Tournament
West Washington’s Rhiley Brennan recently competed at the IHSAA Semi-State Wrestling Tournament at Ford Center in Evansville. It was Rhiley’s dedication, perseverance, and passion for wrestling that allowed him to get this opportunity.
Unconventional Path
Rhiley began his wrestling career as a freshman, making this just his third year in the sport. Most athletes start wrestling at a young age, however Rhiley has taken this challenge on later and he has quickly developed into quite the competitor. Rhiley believes it is the personal growth wrestling offers that has allowed him to excel. “I believe what truly attracted me to wrestling was the challenge presented by sticking with the sport. I wanted to grow as a person because of wrestling. What also brought my attention to wrestling was that it is an individual sport. This allowed me to work on specific things for myself and improve without having to rely on others,” shared Rhiley
Accomplishments and Recognition
Rhiley’s hard work has led to accomplishments that highlight his growth and competitive edge. His achievements this season include the following:
2nd-place finish at the SIWC Tournament
Runner-up at the Sectional Tournament
3rd-place finish at the Regional Tournament
Acknowledgements
Reflecting on those who have helped him reach his success, Rhiley gives credit to his coaches and training partners. “I think the biggest part that made me grow and get to where I am today would be working with my coaches, mainly Mason Jones, Mr. Tank, and Bill Johnson. Working with a college-level wrestler every day truly helped me push my limits and learn from their success. Coach Tank and Bill also played a big role by identifying what I needed to work on and helping me refine my technique. Having consistent training partners like Ira Suvak and Daniel Miner has also been crucial in pushing each other to improve,” explained Rhiley
Academics and Other Interest
Rhiley excels on and off the mat, balancing a rigorous schedule that includes AP Biology, AP US History, Dual Credit Literature, and Pre-Calculus & Trigonometry. He is a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrating his commitment to both athletics and academics.
Rhiley also enjoys competing as a member of both the track and cross-country teams at West Washington.
Congratulations to Rhiley Brennan! He has proven that determination and hard work can lead to success.
