West Washington would like to welcome Holden Bowsman to our junior high teaching staff. Holden is a proud graduate of West Washington High School (Class of 2021). Holden continued his education at Indiana University Southeast, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in math.
Welcome Home: For Holden, returning to West Washington is a dream come true as he proudly explained, “West Washington has always been a second home to me. My sister and I grew up with Dad in these hallways and on the football field. Coming back here was something I thought about as soon as I graduated from college. I knew this was right where I wanted to be, and it only felt right to return to the place that helped shape me into the person I am today. West Washington is truly a special place, and even more special is that I get to share the same hallways as my family every day. My teaching career has been shaped by countless people, but the most influential one was my dad. He poured his heart and soul into West Washington and the students that attended there. I saw this as a young kid and knew that this was exactly what I wanted to do. I am grateful to be able to come back and live out my dream.”
Passion for Teaching: Inspired by his father’s commitment to education, Holden has always had a passion for helping kids grow. His goal is to change the way students see math, making it more engaging and approachable. In just a short time, Holden has already begun building strong relationships with his students and watching their confidence grow. “I have always had a passion for helping kids. Watching them grow and succeed, even beyond my classroom, I think, is special. My first couple of days here have been phenomenal. I have gotten to build relationships with my students and just get to know them as people. I am already starting to see them grow and get more comfortable,” shared Bowsman.
Coaching Background: Just like teaching, the opportunity to coach has always been a dream for Holden. “It’s special getting to be a coach, but even more so to come back and coach in the same programs I played in,” he says. Holden has coached varsity football at West Washington for three years now. This season was his first year coaching JV basketball for the Senators. He enjoys mentoring young athletes and working alongside some of his former coaches.
Life Outside the Classroom: Holden and his fiancée, Hayden, are excitedly preparing for their wedding in December. Hayden has started a fulfilling career of her own as a Registered Nurse. Together, Holden and Hayden enjoy their free time by spending time with family, going to ball games, playing with their dog Roscoe, and making memories with friends.
West Washington is excited to add a familiar face to our team. Holden has a bright future as a dedicated teacher, coach, and role model. Welcome home, Holden!
